PLAYEXPO event Interview with commercial director Andy Brown

I was very lucky to speak with Andy Brown Commercial Director at Replay Events Ltd to ask a few questions about the upcoming Play Expo Event I know you all want answering:

Can you tell us what exciting things you have planned for gaming fans at Play Expo over the two days?

Answer:
Some of the pre-release games we have lined up are really exciting us! Then of course we have over 300 retro consoles and another 150 free play arcade and pinball machines which are also pretty cool. Add our guest speakers, official qualifiers for European gaming tournaments, the cosplay masquerade, an exclusive documentary preview and the many traders we have and we are pretty sure it’s all adding up to be a great show this year.

Can we expect to see any of the big upcoming games showcased over the two days for example Call of Duty, Halo & Wii U?

Answer:
We will have one of the first UK chances to get your hands on the new Wii-U console. We will also previews of the latest Medal of Honour Game and Metal Gear Rising as well as Need for Speed Most Wanted and more AAA titles as well as a good selection of indie games.

What about the under 13’s have you anything to keep the younger audience entertained?

Our show has always been classed as family friendly and this year we have a special dedicated Kids Zone which is a place where parents can be sure that younger children can play in a safe violence and profanity free area.

Will there be any quest speakers or gaming challenges/competitions over the weekend?

Answer:

We have many guest speakers from the past and present gaming world including Mike Montgomery of Bitmap Brothers fame, Martin Edmondson chief creative officer at Thumbstar, who previously established Reflections Interactive which later became Ubisoft Reflections and Steve Lycet, Executive Producer at Sumo Digital who will be doing a talk on the upcoming Sega Sonic All-Star Racers Transformed game. As for tournaments, the weekend will be packed full from start to finish with many pay to enter and free to enter competitions including the official Namco European qualifier on Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Will there be any give-aways/any chances to purchase gaming merchandise?

Answer:

There will be a number of traders at the show which will give attendees chance to buy games, merchandise and apparel amongst other things. I would expect that some of the publishers will be giving away promotional items during the show too.

The question I know everyone will want answering, will Activision be showcasing the Sky Landers Giants?

Answer:

Unfortunately at the moment that isn’t confirmed but if Activision are reading and would like to bring it along they are welcome to get in touch with us!

Will there be any chill out areas for parents and those with very young children and places for people to purchase food & drink?

Answer:

There will be a food court selling food and drink. Anyone wishing to take a break from the show is able to leave and come back at any time the Trafford Centre is just a stone’s throw from Event City so some shopping isn’t out of the question either!

Thanks Andy it sounds like there is something to please everyone, Kids wanting to sample the new Christmas must have games and consoles to the dedicated gamers.
So convenient too for us parents that it is located just at the side of Trafford Centre, well what is a girl to do when the shops are so close it would be rude not to have a look!
