The Wind In The Willows at The West Yorkshire Playhouse Review

 About the show

Poop Poop - there's nothing quite as exhilarating as the open road for Mr. Toad, whose love of new-fangled modes of transport change quicker than the weather…
Leeds-born Alan Bennett adapts Kenneth Grahame's much loved family riverbank classic for the stage. Following the adventures of Mole, Ratty, steadfast Badger and the born-to-drive Toad this delightful family Christmas show moves from the charming tranquillity of Ratty's riverbank to the spectacular chaos of Toad Hall. Designed by Colin Richmond and complete with a young company of carol singing field-mice, families will be transported - via car, train or horse-drawn caravan - to the very heart of our green and pleasant land.
When Mole happens upon Ratty's riverbank a wonderful friendship blooms. Taking the bemused and inquisitive Moley under his wing, Rat introduces him to the world above ground; from the delights of the river to the more sinister Wild Wood, from the dependable Badger to the eccentricities of Mr. Toad and Toad Hall. All seems peaceful until Toad begins to cause havoc in his mechanical motor car, stirring up trouble for the River Bankers. Mole, Ratty and Badger all agree that he needs to be taken in hand, but Toad, being Toad, will not give up his marvelous machines without a fight… poop!
Following its critically acclaimed staging in 2003 Ian Brown re-imagines his production of The Wind in the Willows for a 2012 audience.
Our recommended age for this production is 7+

 My Family's opinion
Well me and my youngest son Jake who loves to attend plays headed over to the West Yorkshire Playhouse for a very anticipated performance of the The Wind In The Willows.
My husband who is not the usual theater goer came along to this performance. I was really interested to see what he thought about the performance and if he could enjoy the show.

Now upon arriving I noticed how ambient the setting was inside of the theater and this added to the magical experience.  With what i would call an amazing performance all around, every last detail very well thought out and the voices of the performers were amazing. One thing my husband pointed out was how well the cast gelled with each other adding to the realism of the show.

This show had many dynamic props which from toads car racing around to the wonderful carriage that was pulled by a horse with a personality. This is  a show that is worth every moment of your time. The way Mr Toad made my husband laugh throughout was exceptional, and he would not stop talking about how he enjoyed the performance.  That being said the whole cast showed how hard they have worked to make this performance look and feel every bit as special as it should be, the whole thing just entices you.

It had all the characters that we knew and loved as we grew up, and it made you feel very proud to be British. I am so glad we had the opportunity to see the performance and I think it is a very special show with and excellent story, a massive well done cast you should be proud.

My Three Words to describe the performance would be: AMAZING,EXCEPTIONAL AND FUNNY
