Horrible Histories Toy Review by Worlds Apart
I have seen the TV series, Read the books with both my children, bought the Annuals as a stocking filler every Christmas and now it was time to bring the Battles to life.
When Worlds Apart asked me and my son to try out some of their new Toys we were very excited.
We both had a starter set each priced at £14.99 each Providing the key elements to start battling, these sets are the only ones to
include a special leader, a working catapult to launch the pig ammo at opponents,
and scoring spikes to judge the game. You can choose between Julius Caesar and Ramesses, to lead their soldiers and
peasants into battle.
We added to our armies with a Battle pack priced at £9.99 each Featuring one shiny hero, two soldiers, four
peasants, one hero weapon, one shiny and one normal game card and two Pig Ammo,
Genghis Khan leads the Egyptian army while William the Conqueror heads up Roman
legion.
You can then top up your armies even further with great pocket money priced Hero Collectibles, including the awesome Alexander the Great, putrid
Blackbeard, terrible Tudor Executioner, brave Boudica and many more. Each hero comes in a blind bag complete with
a movable arm, interchangeable weapon and coin base (groat), plus a special
game card allowing boys to use the card to change the game and are priced at only £1.99 each.
We set up our Armies to battle on the table positioning plenty of soldiers around our leader to protect him and positioned our pigs in the catapult ready for battle to commence!
After a couple of practice shots we were eager to take down each others soldiers and get to the all important leader.
They are cards included in all sets to use during the game that you can choose to use as and when you need such as double points on your next shot or bring 4 peasants back to the field, all are really useful ( especially if you want to win).
We really did have fun playing this and it took over an hour for our battle to cease and for me to be crowned the winner!
We really interacted with each other and helped each other with rules & Tips and had such fun playfully teasing each other when we knocked out yet another of our enemies soldiers or peasants.
Winner!!!
It is a great Toy for keeping the mind active as you always need to be thinking of your next move and if you will play a card on your next turn very similar to chess and a lot more fun than a board game as you really interact with your enemies leader ( in this case my son Jake).
I also love the fact you can keep building onto your collection with the Hero Collectibles and at £1.99 you can treat your children or they can save up their pocket money and buy them.
I have only one concern with these Toys and that is to play the game properly you would need to know someone else with an Army to play against unless your child was happy to play with just the figures alone or to collect them.
Horrible Histories is tipped to be the
biggest craze in schools up and down the country! With so many exciting sets to collect boys are
certain to be captivated, building their armies ready for battle and enjoying
hours of Horrible Histories strategic game play!
Taking game play to
another level in the summer, the Battle Arena is the ultimate playset for a Horrible Histories battle.
Featuring two Egyptian and two Roman characters, and six game cards, boys can
use the arena as one large set or create two opposing bases to play against
their friends. Combining strategy with
action play, this new set allows the Egyptian players to bring characters back
from the dead as mummies, or Roman players to steal their opponent’s dead
characters and turn them into mighty gladiators. Setting the scene with exploding
doors and platforms, the Battle Arena also includes a large sticker sheet allowing
children to customise their battle play set.
What's more children will be able to take their Horrible Histories figures and sets to friends houses with the upcoming coming Carry Case featuring two storage boxes and the case even folds out to reveal a play mat.The boxes also come complete with integrated slots to hold the special game cards securely.
We are definitely looking forward to summer for these to arrive.
All the Toys are suitable for ages 6 +
Currently the play sets are available from John Lewis, Amazon, Smyths and Toys R Us
