On one of our many adventures this summer we headed to Tamworth to the
home of Thomas the tank engine & Ben 10, it can only be Drayton
Manor Theme park.
We decided to stay the night before in the brand
new Drayton Manor hotel so we could be at the theme park bright and
early the following morning.
My Youngest son had been counting down the days to experience the brand new Ben 10 Ultimate mission ride.
The Drayton Manor hotel had only been open 10 days so my expectations of it were high.
At
check in things were not running too smoothly, there was a build up of
quests trying to check in with bags everywhere and young frustrated
Thomas fans who were tired from their journeys.
There were however 2
Thomas train sets out in the lobby for the youngsters to play with
unfortunately lacking in trains for the tracks. Also in the lobby a well
stocked Thomas themed gift shop with plenty of Thomas treats to suit
all pockets.
When our room was finally ready I was a little
disappointed to see children’s hand prints on the mirrors, shower
screens and the tops in the bathroom not cleaned properly & the
ultimate cleaning sin a hair in the bath.
Apart from that the rooms
were very modern with plenty of plug sockets and a very large screen TV
which pleased my husband and boys immensely.
Wireless internet is available in the room but at a fee of £10.00 per night.
I
knew very little of this hotel before staying but I did expect it to
look and feel more child friendly instead it had the appearance of a
city centre hotel perfect for business users and city breaks.
After a
really good night’s sleep (very comfy beds and plenty of pillows) we
headed down to sample the breakfast, where again things were a little
hectic & disorganised. Nice to see the management helping even with
the clearing of tables it really was all hands on deck.
For the amount of Guests possible the breakfast area did look a little on the small size.
The self service breakfast offered a really good choice of traditional English and continental buffet.
The food was extremely tasty although they had run out of white bread for toast.
To
keep the younger quests entertained the fat controller was at hand to
get the children ready to see Thomas land and colouring sheets and
crayons were also available.
I believe if I’d have visited the hotel 3
months after opening things would have been running far more smoothly. I
do think they were a little understaffed and overwhelmed by the amount
of quests staying. Just teething problems.

Our
next stop was the Theme park which is quite literally a stone’s throw
away from the hotel, extremely convenient especially as the heavens had
opened just as we were setting off.
Drayton Manor has rides and attractions to suit all ages from Thomas land to the Drayton manor zoo.
Unfortunately
for us it rained all day, still it didn’t put us off queuing for an
hour to ride the Ben 10 Ultimate mission ride.Fortunatly most of the
queuing for this ride was indoors, you are made to feel as if you are in
a Ben 10 lab, my son enjoyed the queuing nearly as much as the ride as
they are touch screen computers to play games on and lots of giant Ben
10 figures dotted all over to give a great build up to the ride.
Once on the ride it had all the thrills we were expecting and more.
New for this year and no
